Harrer Talent Point Appl

Summary of the European Talent Point information

Harrer has been a three-time recepient of the qualified excellent talent point ranking.

The system of Harrer Talent Point is based on a set of principles. The morning and afternoon programmes of the students are interconnected. The lessons in the morning are synchronised to the curriculum, the activities in the afternoon are held in special blocks, such as talent support programmes or extra-curricular activities.

About the system of our talent development:

  • curricular talent support
  • extra-curricular activities for gifted students
  • talent related curricular and extracurricular programmes: preparation for competitions and individual activities
  • our programmes include Talent Days, project weeks, open lessons for kindergarteners and parents, competitions in Art and other subjects, national competitions via correspondence, the Harrer Gala, sports and crafts day with the parents, themed clubs and athletic activities

Talent Identification:

To establish our concept of the gifted, a summerizing selective method was applied. Based on this model 5 students from each class are selected into the Harrer talent support system with the highest scores. Children may also be invited to join a programme by the teacher.

Developing Highly Gifted Students:

As a talent point school, our aim is to teach children to think and to improve their personality so that they are able to maximise their skills. Our enrichment programmes and complex talent-related activities are concentrate on the seven main domains of Gardner’s multiple intelligences. Currently there are 14 clubs for the highly gifted within our institution.

Besides these enrichment activities, we also place great emphasis on preparing students for competitions (either within curricular education or during optional extra lessons) and on organizing competions in regional, district and school levels. The main targets for the preparations and the enrichment programs are the upper primary level students.  This age-group is deeply interested in languages and natural sciences seeing as how the Wonderful World Eco-Competion (district competion) has been developed by our Talent Point. Content-based foreing language usage is of great importance for us.

All of the above are complemented by other talent development programs within Harrer Talent Point. Joint talent days, conferences, trainings, sharing of best practices and talent support camps are organized by our school.

Volunteering work is also of great importance for us. Adult and university students as well as high school students (within the framework of community service) help in making our programs happen.

Based on the expert assesment of the Hungarian Genius Program (Magyar Géniusz Program), our complex methodology program was selected as one of the 10 most exemplary talent-support programs. The programme was publised by Genius Project Office and it can be also accessed online: http://tehetség.hu/tehetségkonyvtar

We would like it if all talented students could live up to their fullest potentials and abilites. We treat the ’Harrer Talent Point’ programme as a continiuously evolving system, formed by expectations, objective and subjective possiblities.

Our pedagogic creed:

The intention of our teachers are to meet the challenges of our time, not for their own sake but for the interest of the children.
